East Belfast DUP MLA Robin Newton has described a project developed by Ballybeen Women's Centre as being worthy of support and a flagship project.
Robin Newton said,
"The plans being developed by the Ballybeen Women's Centre to provide a new build facility for the estate are exciting, innovative and worthy of support.
Ballybeen Women's Centre has been delivering services to the estate for the past thirty years. They are addressing the developmental needs of women and the staff have developed expertise in the design and delivery of educational and training programmes. I have supported this £2.5Million project over past months. It has always been inspirational to listen to the group and to hear about their plans as they seek to redevelop an existing old and not fit for purpose facility.
Building a new Centre will allow them to double the number of people they can provide a service to.
The emerging partnership to deliver this project is positive. The support and encouragement offered by the NIHE, Department of Social Development Minister, Lord Morrow, and Lisburn & Castlereagh Council is extremely helpful as the project plans are being developed.
I am keen to help turn the ambitions of Ballybeen Women's Group into a reality. I am pleased the Department of Social Development will provide Ballybeen Women's Centre with advice and support to move the project forward. This flagship project has the potential to make a major contribution to the quality of life for those who make use of the centre"
