ROBIN Newton East Belfast DUP MLA, a member of the Northern Ireland Policing Board has condemned the knife wielding thug who robbed the shop on East Belfast’s Albertbrdge Road.

Robin Newton said,

“These robberies are all too frequent and can strike fear into the staff on duty. It is a dreadful experience for staff to be threatened by thieves who carry out these robberies using the threat of violence. The effect on the shop assistants can be one of mental shock that may not be felt for some time.

It is difficult enough for East Belfast’s traders to keep their shops open in today’s economic climate without the loss of goods to thieves. Small neighbourhood shops offer jobs and service to the local community. They are a valued service to all those who live around them.

The PSNI need the help of local people to put the thieves behind bars. I am appealing to anyone who may have even the smallest piece of information to call the police number 101 to help make our streets safer."
