Cut-Backs At Bombardier Cause Concerns

ROBIN Newton East Belfast DUP MLA has expressed his disappointment following the announcement by Bombardier that 130 workers will lose their jobs.

Robin Newton said,

“It matters little to the employees and their families that those identified for redundancy have been regarded as temporary workers. The 130 singled out are individuals with responsibilities and bills to pay; they will find it difficult to get alternative jobs.

I accept Bombardier operates in a highly competitive business environment and is subject to all the business pressures that exist within a currently difficult global economy.  However, these employee cut-backs when added to the job losses last year total over 500 jobs gone from Northern Ireland.

This is a significant blow for the local economy and the decline in skilled manufacturing jobs causes concerns.”
