Skills Strategy Needed for Success

A call for fully integrated, employer-focused implementation process has been made on foot of the publication of the Government’s new Skills Strategy.

Commenting on the Department for Employment and Learning (DEL) strategic document, MLA Robin Newton, said that the Essential Skills Strategy, FE Means Business and the Welfare to Work agenda contained within this 10-year timeframe must involve close co-operation with employers.

MLA Meets IKEA Management

A fully integrated approach to recruitment and training is being sought for the proposed IKEA East Belfast superstore.

At a meeting held today between DUP MLA, Robin Newton and the management of Swedish-owned IKEA, the east Belfast representative urged the company to begin work right away on several important aspects of staff recruitment.

Robin Newton, who has already welcomed the Swedish company’s proposed development, repeated that such a step would be a major confidence boost for unemployed people in the local estates and inner city areas, but only if it was done as a partnership.
