I also thank the Committee because, as we in the Education Committee were working through the special needs Bill, we were aware of the work being done by the Committee for Employment and Learning. Indeed, in many ways, there was a synergy between the two pieces of work, and there certainly was for the pupils who were reaching the time of transfer from the special needs school on to, hopefully, work or education or perhaps to some other facility.

Adjournment Debate: Comber Greenway 30/6/2015
Thank you, Mr Speaker, for staying on after such a long day and, indeed, given that this is the last day of term. I also thank the Minister for being here. I recognise that, out of his time and very busy schedule, he has taken the opportunity to be here.
Special Educational Needs And Disability Bill: Second Stage 10/3/2015
Like others, I welcome the general principle of the Bill and thank the Minister for bringing it forward. It becomes a bit of a cliché and can be said too often, but society is often judged by the way in which it treats the most vulnerable in society.
STEM In Schools 2/3/2015
I, too, support the motion. Like my colleague, I want to hone in on what I see as a key phrase in the motion:
"STEM as a key driver of the economy".
Education Bill: Second Stage 14/10/2014
This is a relatively short Bill: short but nonetheless important. The Bill indicates that this is a good day for Northern Ireland, its education system and the pupils who ultimately benefit from it. It has taken us a long time to get here, and it has been a difficult passage.
Kincora Boys' Home: Investigations Of Allegations Of Abuse 30/9/2014
I rise to support the motion. Kincora is a scandal; it is a stain in east Belfast. It was a house of horrors, and every day the house sits as a permanent reminder of its very dark past. Those walking around the area today who have a connection with Kincora and are regarded as respectable people and pillars of society are a total and utter disgrace. They have a conscience seared with a hot iron for what they did to young boys in Kincora.
Key Stage Assessments 23/6/2014
I support the motion. I do so having listened to the passion of Mr Storey, the professionalism of Mr Rogers, the pleading of Mr Kinahan to be listened to and the lack of confidence that Mr Lunn has in the system.
Inquiry Into The Education And Training Inspectorate And The School Improvement Process 17/6/2014
I joined the Committee as the report was being prepared, but I want to thank all who contributed to its compilation, including the many who gave generously of their time, particularly our Committee Clerk and support staff. It is an excellent and very detailed report that should be seen as a constructive step towards addressing this concern.

Education: Area Planning Process 2/6/2014
I suppose that, when I looked at the motion, I asked myself what aspect of it we had not debated before and on a number of occasions. I asked myself these questions in the context of what has happened in east Belfast: what is the current approach to area planning and what has it achieved? I want to focus on the east Belfast area plan and ask why the Minister is so hung up on an area planning process and exercise that has let him down on so many occasions.
